I have no idea who the Monkeyholics are … but, I am sure that they will have the coolest tshirt at their event this weekend. Our client wanted a shirt that would pop and I think we delivered. It has to be some type of cool 4 wheel drive club with monster tires and such. Looks fun no matter what.

I have owned two jeeps in my lifetime, so far (wink wink), and I love the mud. Not a big fan of getting stuck. Here’s a story from my past. My first jeep was a CJ-5. Very short wheelbase, still had that body style from previous military model. We lived in Lufkin, Texas at the time … I was a youth minister … the guys in my youth group loved the red jeep as well. Living in the Pineywoods … lots of logging roads and the such near where we lived. Well, on Saturday morning … off I went exploring some trails, ruts, ravines, etc. I happened upon this cool creek … not too steep … should be a no brainer. I slowly pulled down into the creek at an angle and when I got to the bottom the front wheels began to go up while the back wheels continued to go down when all of a sudden I felt the entire body kind of twist … and pop … I did not have a clutch. Seems the deal that pushes in the pressure plates just popped out. I was stranded. No winch. Nothing. The really bad thing. I was suppose to sing in a wedding that afternoon. I was probably a good 5 miles from anything. (This was pre-cell phone days) and no one knew where I was.

I trekked out of the woods and honestly I can not recall how we got the jeep out and home … I was just trying to get to the wedding. I made it. I am sure some great friends helped in getting my jeep home.

The next weekend at our normal youth meeting my kids presented me with a brand new come-along. (come-along is like a winch you can use by hand) I still have that come-along to this day.

To continue an all ready super long post … I think I would like to try a Suzuki Samauri for a next project. I hear they are pretty fun.

Amplify Design’s Names of God Banners

December 1st, 2009

NOG-page-headerHave you seen those banners that have the names of God on them like … Jehovah Shalom, The Lord our Peace or Jehovah Nissi, The Lord our Banner?  I remember the first time I sat in church and saw some of those hand made banners … honestly I had never even studied “the names of God” until I was acquainted with the banners … and I was a bible student! It really made me dig and study all of the names of God … for myself. It was a lasting study and helpful in my personal prayer life. Well, the folks at Amplify Designs have the whole set of “the names of God” in a great package. Not only that … but they have a bunch of other cool banners pre made for your church or ministry signage needs.

They have a special running right now … mix and match any 5 banners and get the 6th banner FREE. That’s a cool deal. I know these folks at Amplify and they are the real deal. Not only to they produce great work, being in the sign business for 3 generations … but they have a heart for missions. A quick trip to their website would yield a glimpse of their heart for Africa. I don’t know very many business owners who would take off a month for a short term mission trip. I took off a week and thought the business would collapse.

Amplify Designs has a ton of other series and seasonal banners … for Easter, Mother’s Day, Christmas … you name it. If you have waited until the last minute … don’t sweat it. These banner files are pre made and ready to print. The Amplify folks will bust it to get them to you.

To help you with your display needs they have a lot of product like stands, rizors, roll up, sandwich signs, and pop up displays. Some might say, Wayne … don’t you guys do banners. Yep, we do … but these folks have some very quick picks for pre made banners and it’s all they do. You need to check them out.

Tell them you saw this post at waynegooden.com

If you haven’t found vectorlady … consider this your lucky day … the holy grail of free stuff and great tutorials. Ann is the queen of free vectors. She just does not offer one teaser graphic package … my gosh … she offers a ton of free stuff. She has a blog and a lot of her stuff is scattered throughout other download sites. How do you use her stuff? Well, let’s say you wanted to create your own swirls and curls from a tutorial link I shared with you yesterday. Ok, you made your swirl with the swirl tool from Illustrator … and now you need those little bits or leaves that you want to put on your swirl … but you are so NOT creative and can not even think about creating a little morsel to add to your cool swirlie. There you have just a naked swirlie. Nothing is more daunting, staring you down like the geico money pile with big googlie eyes. Enter one of the floral design elements from Vectorlady … you grab one of those little .eps leaves and add it to your naked swirlie … there ya go … you are on your way to a fully customizable swirl number one. Now, 7 zillion swirls or curls later … you should thank your lucky stars that you found vectorlady … and thank me for introducing you.

Top Ten Handrawn Fonts

November 17th, 2009

favoritefontEvery Designer knows that we live and die by the font. Nothing can be more frustrating and rewarding than finding the right font for the job. As with vector graphics … the professional designer will spend hundreds, yeah even thousands on quality fonts. Font farms like dafont have allowed typographers a great platform to express themselves with fonts. My background in typesetting was in offset printing. Back in the early 70’s there were not many choices on fonts to use. Producing them was left to the professional “type setter”. Can you imagine that there was such a job. Man, I was so excited when IBM came out with the selectric with interchangeable fonts! We have come a long, long way. Now we see anyone with a computer and a little time can come up with their own font. Well, it’s not ‘that’ easy … but a lot easier than what it used to be. Hand drawn fonts are coming into their own in recent months … I am not talking about hand written script fonts … but lettering like I used to do when I was a kid. Making my own custom font set. Here are my top ten hand drawn fonts that I love to use … for my own personal enjoyment. All of these are linked to dafont for you to see and download.

Karabine by Jonathan Paquette.

Pointy by Pointy Design

Love Ya Like A Sister by Kimberly Geswein

Grutch Shaded by Steeve Gruson

Take Out The Garbage by Kirk Shelton (I totally love this font, it looks like what I used to do as a kid)

Hello Lori by Richard McCoy

OPN Stun Filla Wenda by Omar the Radwan (I am diggin this font, it totally has a hand drawn quality)

Mental Freak by Rodrigo German (Here is another ‘off the wall’ fonts that probably is off the radar of most designers)

Green Pilloww by Billy Argel

Mia’s Scribblings by Amelia
